Workshop for Pilot Site Selection Survey

On 17th September 2010, as a part of pilot site selection survey, FSIV (Forest Science Institute of Vietnam), the contractor of the survey, held a workshop participated by:

  • Deputy Project Director, Project Manager and Sub-DOF (Sub Department of Forestry) staffs from DARD (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development);
  • Person in charge of Agriculture and Forestry form Dien Bien District, Dien Bien Dong District, and Dien Bien Phu City; and
  • Representatives from six communes and twelve villages where the survey was conducted.

Participants were divided into 3 groups and discussed on one of the three subjects mentioned below, based on the field survey and analysis results by FSIV:

  1. Income generation activities and marketing of the products;
  2. Actual situation of forest management at village level; and
  3. Checking of existing village-level data

Through the active discussions of each group, we could get information from the participants from various communes and villages, in particulate reasons of the difficulties to earn money and the realities of the forest management in the villages etc.

These obtained opinions and results of this workshop will be reflected in the final report, which will be submitted to the project from FSIV by 30th September.
