Counterpart training in Japan will be applied to improve forest management capacity in Viet Nam

Based on plan of “The Afforestation Planning and Implementation Capacity Strengthening Project (FICAB 2)”, funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency, Vietnamese forest delegation with 23 members from 22 provinces of Vietnam, including Vice Directors - in charge forestry of DARD (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development), and Heads of Sub-Department of Forestry, and headed by Mr. Nguyen Huu Thien, Vice Director of Forest Development Department of VNFOREST (Vietnam Administration of Forestry) participated in study-tour to Japan from 30 November - 9 December 2010.

During in Japan, Forestry Agency of Japan received the Vietnamese forest delegation and introduced the Forest Planning System of Japan.

Vice Governor of Kumamoto prefecture received the delegation and introduced forest management and forest development of Kumamoto prefecture. The Vietnamese forest delegation visited Kumamoto wood process factory, HIGO MOKUZAI Corporation, Nippon Paper Company, Lumbex Wood Process Company and Aso watershed forest.

All members of the delegation highly appreciated perfect forest development of Japan, from sustainable forest management, Forest Planning System for afforestation, logging, transportation through marketting.

All lesson learned of the Vietnamese forest delegation from the study-tour will be applied to improve capacity of forest management, forest planning and implementing reforestation projects in Vietnam.
