Discussion in the meeting

An integrated flood management plan considering climate change was one of the most important schemes in this project. A final formulation meeting for integrated flood management plan was held.

This plan is the flood management plan of the Huong river basin. A flood is affected by many components of natural conditions and infrastructure. Further, floods will be reduced by structural measures (such as dam and dyke) and non structural measures (hazard map etc.). Further, many plans such as an economy development plan (2020), road development plan and town development plan were formulated. Under such conditions, many departments cooperate to formulate an effective flood management plan. Therefore the formulation team composed of related organizations was established and discussed the integrated flood management plan. The team started the first meeting on May, 2011. This final meeting on September 6 was the sixth meeting.

The team members were composed of many organizations such as Peoples committee, Agriculture (disaster, irrigation, forest), Traffic (road, railway), Construction (town development), Natural resources (river, environmental, hydrology), Plan and investment (economy development) and Financial (budget).

Discussion in the meeting

The JICA staff visited Vietnam for the final evaluation of this project and also to attend this meeting. In the meeting, climate change level, flood simulation conditions and results, suitable measures, priority, suitable budget plan was confirmed. This plan will be approved by the peoples' committee. The flood management in T.T. Hue will be carried out based on this plan.
