Training of the Flood Control Technique in Community Workshop

Community disaster management workshop was held at T.RT. Hue province from July 18 to 22. Responsible persons from District PPC, Villages were attended. In this workshop, training of the flood control technique was conducted.

In this training, Vietnamese project counterparts explained community disaster management knowledge, method and technique to the attendants. Further, Japanese project expert trained actual flood control technique to the attendants.

Considering actual situation of the pilot site, Japanese technique "Tsumi Dono Ko[1]" and "Kinagasi Ko[2]" was introduced and trained. Attendants were accustomed to the preparation of Sand Back (Dono) but piling sand back technique (Tsumi Dono Ko) and rope work technique (Kinagasi Ko) was the first experience.

One JOCV member (Village development, disaster management attended to this workshop and cooperate the demonstration of the rope work.

These techniques can be executed only by the local material in the site. Attendants said that they will employ these techniques to deal with coming flood in this year.


Notes

  • [1] Dono ko : Strengthened sand bag piling method to protect overflow. Pile the sand bags at 2 rows and fill and compact soil between two sand bag rows. This method is used at the low embankment area or settled embankment area.
  • [2] Kinagashi ko : The method, temporary install roping tree at river bank to ease the water force and protect erosion of the river bank.
