Mastitis Control Program training courses for local technicians in STED The first course from 2nd to 6th June, 2008 & 2nd course from 9th to 13th June, 2008

Basing on real demand of mastitis control in dairy farms in the project’s target areas, In June 2008, the project invited one short-term expert from Japan, Dr. Anri Akira, one expert on Mastitis Control Program to visit and short time work in Vietnam. During his term, the project held training courses for local technicians of the project’s target areas about mastitis control. The first one was lasted from 2nd to 6th June, 2008 for participants from the project’s target areas: Moc chau & Vinh Tuong and the second was from 9th to 13th June, 2008 for participants from the project’s cooperation areas: Thanh Hoa & Hung Yen and others: Bavi.

During training period, participants not only were trained in lab but also practiced in real farms. As a result, at the end of courses, trainees could get knowledge of milk sample collection, bacteria culturing method, bacteriological examination method, mastitis causative pathogens and treatment of clinical mastitis. In addition to, Dr. Anri Akira introduced Milk quality and inspection system in Hokkaido for Vietnamese local technicians.

At the end of the training courses, participants had to do a test which would be evaluated by Dr. Anri Akira. In general, participants got basic knowledge of mastitis control in dairy cattle and expected that they would apply in their job.
