After many observations in farms in target areas, the project’s experts recognized that one of very serious & popular diseases of dairy cows in farms here now was hoof disease. The number of cows got hoof problem was increasing day by day. One of reasons for that bad situation was that the farmers had no habit to trim hoof for cows periodically. Almost of dairy cows in farms had no experience on being trimmed the hoof.

Basing on that real situation, the project invited one short term expert on hoof caring, Mr. Toriumi Shinya, Hokkaido, Japan to visit and work in Vietnam around 2 months. On this occasion, the project held 3 on-site training courses for LT about Hoof Trimmings in 3 different areas: Ba Vi, Moc Chau, Vinh Tuong.

There was not so much theory transfer, most of the training time of the course was for practice. The project prepared one chute and hoof trimming tools like knife, nipper, etc. After finishing all training courses, the project gave hoof trimming tools as present for target areas.

During the training time, Mr. Toriumi tried to show for local technicians the techniques to get successful hoof trimming. In actual, It was not simple and easy to practice and handle all hoof trimming techniques. It took times and required hardworking & skill.

Because this was a quite new technique in for them actually, local technicians were so eager on studying. They practiced laboriously and listened to the lecture attentively. At the end of the training courses, local technicians in 3 areas: Ba vi, Moc Chau, Vinh Tuong could get more experience on this quite new field in the project’s target areas.
