On 9 June, urea rice straw treatment demonstration activity was organized at MrViet’sfarm (one of the project’s model farms) in VinhThinhcommune. Basing on the fact that there are always a lot of rice straw left wastefully in many farm’s house after rice harvest season. As rice straw can be a good source of fiber for cattle, the Project tried to encourage utilizing this by-product among dairy farmers in VinhThinhduring the season. To increase palatability and nutrition of rice straw, the Project recommended one special technique to treat rice straw using urea. Step by step guidance of making urea-treated rice straw was already shown in Project’s leaflet, which was delivered to many dairy farms. Last year, the Project also had one demonstration on this method in VinhThinh. This year, to expand this technique to more farmers, again the Project held it and informed to neighbor farmers to come to see and even participate. The activity was guided by Mr. Koji Shimokawaand Ms. KhuatThiThu Ha
(the Project’s counterpart).
