Moc Chau and Vinh Thinh have many differences in terms of natural condition and dairy farming background, which contribute to the difference in cow condition. As Moc Chau is located on high land having cooler temperature all year round, its natural condition is more favorable for dairy farming than that of Vinh Thinh. In addition, dairy farmers there receive good technical support from the Moc Chau dairy company.

In general, Moc Chau dairy farmers practice better than the farmers in Vinh Thinh, in terms of milking method, feed supply and farm management. Therefore, the project held a Study visit tour for Vinh Tuong farmers to Moc Chau. This study visit provided Vinh Thinh farmers a chance to observe dairy farming in Moc Chau as well as exchange idea and experience with Moc Chau farmers.

On the first day, Vinh Thinh farmers had a meeting with Moc Chau company leaders and the director of the company introduced about Moc Chau’s dairy history as well as Moc Chau strategies in the future. The farmers also visited Moc Chau milk factories, milk-collecting points. On the next days, they visited Moc Chau model farms, and observed the milking practice, farm condition, feeding method and feed supply. Moc Chau farmers answered questions from the Vinh Thinh size. On the last day, the project held a conference for both sizes, talking and discussing about six important criteria in dairy farming, calf rearing and silage making.

All farmers appreciated the Study tour and found it useful for them. Through discussion with Moc Chau farmers, they had gained much useful information about feeding method and making silage. Although the tour just took place in 3 days, it really brought some benefits to Vinh Thinh farmers.
