J.I.C.A tackles Evan's Waste
( Samoa Observer (PDF/669KB) , December 22, 2012)
For the first time in Samoa, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) have established a Project on "Disaster Waste Management" straight after tropical Cyclone Evan demolished the Island. The major purpose of this Project is to implement cost effective measures and proper waste management based on the 3R concepts (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) in handling wide variety of disaster wastes, and this is also effective for preventing outbreak of diseases.
JICA / MNRE hope this experience and of the pilot project will contribute to the future developments of guidelines on Disaster Waste Management in Samoa.
