Call for application for ABE Initiative: Scholarship Program for Master's Degree and Internship in Japan

On October 8, 2015, an orientation was held at the University of Juba with the collaboration of the College of Engineering and Architecture of the University and JICA to explain and call for proposals for ABE Initiative (African Business Education Initiative for Youth), a scholarship program for Master's Degree and Internship in Japan. The orientation was attended by Honourable Bol Makueng Yuol, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Simon Akuei Deng, Secretary General of South Sudan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Mr. Masahiko Kiya, Ambassador of Japan, Dr. Mitsuaki Furukawa, Chief Representative of JICA South Sudan and nearly 300 people from universities, government institutions and private sectors.

ABE Initiative is a strategic five-year plan providing youths in Africa with opportunities for studying at Japanese graduate schools as well as internships at Japanese enterprises. Graduates of the ABE Initiative Master's Degree and Internship Program will contribute to the industrial development of South Sudan by assuming leadership roles within South Sudanese organizations, especially businesses, to contribute to the success of these organizations and to strengthen the linkage between South Sudan and Japan.

In his speech, Honourable Bol Makueng Yuol expressed his appreciation to the Government of Japan and JICA for their cooperation to the development of South Sudan including the scholarship opportunities through ABE Initiative. He encouraged young people of South Sudan to work hard like the Japanese and contribute to the development of South Sudan and other countries. Dr. Furukawa, Chief Representative of JICA, emphasized the importance of human resources development by saying "ABE Initiative will contribute to reducing vulnerability of the society and economy, and it will lay a good foundation for future development and prosperity of South Sudan" and encouraged many people to apply.

JICA South Sudan is open for applications for ABE Initiative until October 30, 2015. Please read carefully the below information, and submit all the necessary application documents to JICA South Sudan Office.
