JICA's Good Practice on utilization of Digital Elevation Model for Post Disaster Survey

Application of Digital Elevation Model (ALOS World 3D topographic data) by JICA to Koslanda Landslide was listed as a Good Practice on International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM (external link)).

Since the detailed topographic map was not available in Sri Lanka, JICA decided to utilize the AW3D model and compared the topography obtained by the aerial survey.

Currently, JICA is implementing "Capacity Development Project for Creating Digital Elevation Model for Resilient Country" in line with Survey Department under the Technical Cooperation.

In this project, JICA will conduct airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) survey to create DEM data for 7,800km2 in Sri Lanka.
