Sharing our knowledge and useful materials for enhancing Community Based Disaster Risk Management

The Japan International Cooperation Agency implemented the Disaster Management Capacity Enhancement Project Adaptable to Climate Change (so called "DiMCEP") from March 2010 to March 2013 with the Disaster Management Center, the Department of Irrigation, the Department of Meteorology and the National Building Research Organization.

One of the project outcomes is to enhance the capacity of Community. To achieve the enhancement of Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) capacity in the pilot district and division, JICA in harmony with the Disaster Management Center have developed CBDRM materials called as "Fliptation".

Fliptation is a coined words of "Flip Chart" and "Presentation". Now a day, most of the people use Slide Images for making presentations. Similarly, DiMCEP created fliptation materials to make lecture and presentation in an easy to understand way in the community. Since the fliptation material can be posted at the walls at school, District or GN office and other key person's office, it also aims at ensuring the dissemination of proper knowledge about disaster mechanisms and CBDRM processes to the community. Fliptation is available in English, Sinhala and Tamil language, we believe that this material will help Sri Lankan Government and people to enhance the adequate knowledge about natural disasters and become able to protect their lives by themselves to a certain extent.
