Small-Scale Livestock Project Established a Sustainable Model of Private Extension Services in Kilinochchi

JICA's small scale livestock project implemented by World Vision established an innovative model to Kilinochchi, in which private technicians supplement the works of short-staffed veterinary surgeons and government extension officers by providing basic services such as artificial insemination (AI) and vaccination. The Project selected and trained 30 private technicians from the local livestock farmers, all of whom are now certified AI technicians. Not only that the accessibility to these services significantly improved, but it is proven also as a successful business model as the service charge collected from beneficiaries can now sustain the activities without external funding.
