Opening Ceremony for TCTP on Mineral Resources for Balkan Countries

The opening ceremony for Third Country Training Program (TCTP) on Capacity Building on Exploration and Evaluation of Mineral Resources for Balkan Countries was held on November 14, 2016. 12 participants from Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Kosovo participated in the final training program.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Cengiz Erdem, the Director General of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) and our Chief Representative Ms. Mayumi Endoh, delivered opening remarks. Ms. Endoh underlined the long lasting cooperation between JICA and MTA which was started in 1973 and the very first TCTP in Turkey that was started in 1997. She also emphasized the importance of dissemination of participants' knowledge and experience in their own countries after the training.

On behalf of trainees, a participant from Bosnia-Herzegovina made a speech and pointed out the importance of this program to Balkan countries and his gratitude to JICA and MTA for the implementation of the program. Representatives from Embassy of Japan and many MTA officers participated in the ceremony. After the ceremony, participants, lecturers and partner organizations find time to meet each other and exchange information at the reception.

This TCTP is a three year program that was started in 2014 with the cooperation of MTA. Since 1997, 301 trainees from 16 countries have participated in 16 TCTP.

Before the opening ceremony, Our Chief Representative, Ms.Mayumi Endoh and JICA Turkey staffs paid a courtesy visit to Director General of MTA, Mr. Cengiz Erdem and exchanged ideas about the program and the future cooperation between two organizations.
