The first program on TCTP on Disaster Risk Management and Building Disaster Resilient Communities was held on May 06 – 20, 2017 in Ankara in cooperation with JICA, Middle East Technical University (METU) and Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). The program targeted Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines in order to share the technical information as well as field experiences in disaster management, with the participating lecturers from various disciplines related to disaster management. This two-week training program started with the participation of 12 trainees in Ankara with lectures in Disaster Risk Management at various topics, proceeded with field visits to an earthquake-affected / rehabilitated area of Kaynasli-Duzce, and Bursa (a multi hazard city with earthquake, landslide and industrial risks) where the participants received training with help of simulators in Bursa Disaster Training Center, and ended in Istanbul with a visit to a retrofitting work at Goztepe Research Hospital at the Anatolian (Asian) side. Additionally JICA dispatched an expert, Mr. Hasegawa who has great experiences on Disaster Risk Reduction in Japan, Turkey and Asian countries for the entire program.
