"3RD Action Plan Contest Award Ceremony"

Four Finalist Invited and Awarded with attendance of Ambassador and Parliament Member

Starting from 1959, JICA have invited around 4,000 Turkish Government officers to Japan in order to offer them technical training on various subjects. After returning from Japan, they work for further development of Turkey by utilizing such experiences and knowhow gained during the trainings. Within this scope JICA and JICA Alumni has been organizing the "Action Plan Contest" since 2015 in order to encourage and support the participants' activities for the best use of training outcomes. This year, four finalists were invited to the Award Ceremony.

On March 03, 2018, the award ceremony was held with the participation of Chairperson of Turkish-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Association from Turkish Grand National Assembly, Mr. Alparslan KAVAKLIOGLU who is also the ex-participant of JICA and H.E. Akio MIYAJIMA, the Ambassador of Japan to Ankara. They delivered opening remarks emphasising the importance of this event that contributes to the good relations between Turkey and Japan. The high level of attendance was significant for the award ceremony.

Action Plan for better society and joyful life in Turkey

The 1st Prize Winner

Mr. Aslan Mehmet COSKUN (Tekirdag Provincial Directorate of AFAD)
Training Course: "Promotion of Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction" in 2016
Action Plan: "Disaster Training for Persons with Disabilities"

Mr. COSKUN learned the situations of vulnerable people severely affected by the causes of earthquake disasters and witnessed that Japanese peopled made a very detailed and comprehensive plan for disaster risk reduction, covering disabled persons and elder ones. His action plan was "Disaster Training for Persons with Disabilities" in order to raise awareness about disaster, to teach correct behaviours at the time of disaster, to make our citizens with disabilities and their families resistant to disasters. He is developing training programs for vulnerable people in cooperation with local public organizations.

The 2nd Prize Winner

Mr. Serkan DEMIREL (Department of Fire Brigade, Konya Metropolitan Municipality)
Training Course: "Young Leaders Program for Turkey/Fire and Emergency Response Service" in 2017
Action Plan: "Disaster Education in Schools and Invitation Program for Students in Fire Station"

Mr. DEMIREL participated in "Young Leaders Program for Turkey/Fire and Emergency Response Service" that was held in Hokkaido, the northern main island of Japan in 2017. He was impressed by the disaster awareness activities for children that start from the kindergarten which means from the basic level. His action plan was about "Disaster Education in Schools and Invitation Program for Students in Fire Station". As Konya Fire Brigade, they visit preschools for practical trainings to school personnel and children and invite them to the Fire Station in order to perform correct behaviours during disasters, with cooperation of the local education authority. He introduced episodes in Hokkaido that they became good friends with Hokkaido fire fighters and exchanged uniforms each other on leaving there, which is forgettable memories for them.

The 3rd Prize Winner

Ms. Nazlı DEMIR (District Governor of Felahiye, Kayseri)
Training Course: "Capacity Development for State Territorial Representatives on Regional Development" in 2017
Action Plan: "Training Course of Processing Regional Specific Products and Marketing to Village Women"

Ms. DEMIR said that she was impressed by how Japanese people are attached to traditional products, making special efforts to keep their traditions alive and transmit them to future generations with best use of local resources. Her action plan aims to establish an independent cooperative for local women to be employed in order to produce local foods which are about to be forgotten for contributing family economy and raising the standard of living of the district economy. She researched potential resources existing in the region and has started up business for village women, with collaboration of local authorities. She conveyed a strong message "As a woman, I wanted to take actions for women. I will continue efforts and actions for improvement of lives by ourselves even without supports from local authorities!!", which was really impressive to the audience.

The 3rd Prize Winner

Mr. Bayram TÜRKER (District Governor of Polateli, Kilis)
Training Course: "Capacity Development of State Territorial Representatives on Regional Development" in 2017
Action Plan: "Support for Social Participation of Elder People who live alone"

Mr. TÜRKER participated in "Project for Capacity Development of State Territorial Representatives on Regional Development" held in Hokkaido in 2017. He witnessed various impressive activities in Hokkaido, including Snow Festival which turns snow as a negative resource to tourism resources, school activities where students do class cleaning and distribute lunch themselves contributing to high moral and discipline. Especially, he was impressed by the efforts of non-governmental organizations for disadvantaged groups in Japan, with supports of which disadvantage groups try to participate and get roles in their societies. His action plan was about supporting elder people to access public potentials, providing house cleaning by young volunteers in order to raise social solidarity.

One Episode and Encounter in Japan Connecting Turkey and Japan

A plenty of Actions are ongoing, besides those of Prize Winners which were introduced in Action Plan Contest Award Ceremony. All participants to training programs in Japan and their actions themselves are friendship bridges between Turkey and Japan. JICA Turkey Office and JICA Alumni will continue to place high values on relations with each ex-participants and promote their precious activities for realizing better society and people's lives in Turkey with valuable experiences and beautiful memories, sometime even curious, in Japan.

The Action Plan Contest is coming again next year. Participants of JICA training program, we are looking forward to seeing as many as proposals and you, dear friends!!
