President of TIKA, DG of TUGEM and JICA Chief Rep agreed the protocol
The protocol for Third Country Training Programme entitled "Development of Sustainable Aquaculture" for Central Asian countries which will be implemented in cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, General Directorate of Agricultural Production and Development (TUGEM) and Prime Ministry Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA) was signed on 23 July, 2010.
Among the Central Asian Countries such as Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the fishery and aquaculture field are recognized as one of the important fields for their country's development.Acquiring further knowledge and skills for the development of this field have been their common interest.
On the other hand, JICA has been implementing technical cooperation project in Turkey in the field of aquaculture since 1997. The level of related organizations in Turkey has been built up to the extent that they can transfer their techniques and experiences to the other countries. Within this Third Country Training Programme, JICA aims to utilize Turkish knowledge and skills they have gained through the past technical cooperation to share and expand to the Central Asian countries, and also to contribute to build favorable relationship among these countries. In practice, TUGEM, which is implementation body, will provide the training course to the Central Asian countries on the basis of JICA and TIKA's supports(*) annually from year 2010 to 2012. This year's training course will be implemented between October 11 and 30, 2010, and field trips will be carried out in addition to the theoretical lessons.
One of the priority areas of JICA's assistance to Turkey is "South-South Cooperation". We would like to further seek for cooperation structure which contributes to expand Turkey's experience to the region, utilizing high level knowledge and skills of Turkey that has gained through our past cooperation.
