The 5th Robot Contest, organized by JICA and the Ministry of National Education was held on May 12-13 in Ankara. The contest was started with the participation of Undersecretary of Ministry of National Education, Ms. Esengül CİVELEK and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, H.E. Mr. Kiyoshi ARAKI.

This Robot Contest was originally started in 2001 as a local competition in Izmir prefecture, based on advice from Japanese experts dispatched for JICA's Technical Cooperation Project "Establishment of Industrial Automation Technologies Departments in Anatolian Technical High Schools". The competition enlarged its scale every year, and since February 2007, this competition was restructured as national competition hosted jointly by JICA and Ministry of National Education. This year counts its 5th year as a national competition.

This year's theme category is selected as "May 19 (The Youth Day) Relay Race" based on the starting day of Turkey's Independence Movement. Other three categories are Sumo, Mini Sumo and Line Tracing. In the last year's Robot Contest, Turkish teams had chance to exchange ideas with Japanese focusing on the robotic technology they used in their robots. More flexible and faster movement robot motors were introduced by Japanese colleagues. Therefore, the 5th Robot Contest is expected to be more competitive with the introduction of new technologies among participants. As a matter of fact, more than 792 teams, which were around 700 in the last Robot Contest, participated for this year's Robot Contest.

The competitions ended on May 13, 2011 with a closing ceremony. Prizes are presented to the winners of each category. The final results of the competition are as listed below:
