The first rail welding Ceremony of Marmaray Project was held on January 14, 2012 in Istanbul in the Ayrılıkçeşme-Kazlıçeşme Part of the Project in İstanbul.

1. An important phase has been reached at Marmaray Project (financed by JICA) which is expected to create a huge relief to the solution of the traffic congestion problem in Istanbul. The rail tracks have been started to build on 14 kilometers-long line between Üsküdar and Kazlıçeşme of Istanbul.

2. Prime Minister Erdoğan did the first rail welding in 14 km-long part of the Project. Erdoğan said, "The Marmaray Project will not only bridge the European and Asian side of Istanbul with a rail system but also will provide an uninterrupted railway between Beijing and London, a revival of a modern-time Silk Road. When the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway and high-speed train Project are completed, Turkey will be the most strategic country in the transport area of the Asia-Europe Corridor."

3. This event showed the significance of this project in Turkey. JICA that is financing 153 billion JPY supports this project as much as possible as we have been doing since the beginning of the project.
