COVID-19UG: Voices of JICA Ex-participants: Ms. Tageya Sophia Bruhan

Ms. Tageya Sophia Bruhan

Ms. Tageya Sophia Bruhan, a Nurse on the COVID-19 response team at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital was part of JICA's Knowledge Co-creation Program and trained on "Public Health Activities for Strengthening Maternal and Child Health" in Japan, between July 10 and August 24, 2019. She shares;

The training in the first place reshaped my approach to healthcare service delivery and taught me to value preparedness, quality and taking on leadership roles to implement positive changes in society.

Therefore, when we saw how COVID-19 was spreading and people elsewhere in the world were dying, I suggested that we start getting ready just in case we find ourselves with patients to handle.

I organized an immediate training for the general hospital to inform the staff of what was happening and equip them with information so that they are alert. We then came up with a team and started looking through our stock of things to see what is needed in such a situation and presented our needs for preparedness to the hospital management.

I have been on the front line since then, and owe it to JICA's training program because I now approach issues rationally.
