Inauguration of water supply project in Khizi city

On May 4, 2018 the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, took part in the opening ceremony of the water supply and sewerage system in the city of Khachmaz and the administration building of the administration of Azersu Open Joint-Stock Company in Khachmaz.

The project "Reconstruction of water supply and sewerage systems in Khachmaz city", funded by the Government of Azerbaijan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, aims to improve the use of drinking water and sanitation services of 4700 people in Khachmaz city, taking into account long-term development by 2030. The project will be implemented in five villages of this region with a population of 58,000 people.

As a result of comprehensive measures undertaken in the country to improve the drinking water supply of the population, the infrastructure of drinking water supply and sanitation in the regions is being reconstructed in accordance with modern requirements and significant progress has been made in the field of quality and uninterrupted water supply. To improve the use of drinking water and sanitation in Khachmaz, one of the regions with significant agrarian and industrial potential, comprehensive measures were taken. The project of reconstruction of the water supply and sewerage system in the city of Khachmaz, which began in 2012 within the framework of the State Program for Social and Economic Development of Regions, approved by President Ilham Aliyev, was completed.

To ensure high-quality and constant drinking water of Khachmaz city, as well as adjacent villages, the existing natural source of water, Uchgun, was chosen. Conducted laboratory tests confirm that the quality in this source of water corresponds to the standards. The study showed that the capacity of the source is also at an optimal level. After performing major repairs in irrigation facilities, the capacity of the source increased to 229 liters per second or 19,800 cubic meters per day, with two tanks each having a capacity of 3,000 cubic meters, and 1.9 km of water was installed to transport water. The amount of water collected in the tanks is monitored online via the SCADA system.

Within the framework of the project, a modern administrative building for the Regional Water Resources Management was constructed. The Head of State was informed that the Provincial Cities Water Supply and Sewerage Project, co-financed by the Azerbaijani government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency, includes the reconstruction of water supply and sewage systems in the cities of Gusar, Naftalan, Gobustan and Khizi together with Khachmaz city. In these cities, the construction of water and sewage networks has been completed. At the final phase of the project, treatment facilities will be built.
