Grant Agreement for the Project for Upgrading Lusaka Health Centres to District Hospitals concluded with the Government of Zambia

Lusaka, 17th July 2013 – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Zambia Office signed a Grant Agreement to provide grants of up to 19.08 billion Japanese Yen for the "the Project for Upgrading Lusaka Health Centres to District Hospitals" with the Government of Zambia.

The aim of this project is to strengthen the two target Health Centres, namely the Matero Reference Health Centre and the Chilenje Health Centre, and elevating them to District Hospital level in order to improve health care access for residents of Lusaka while reducing the congestion at UTH and reviving its function as the top referral and educational hospital. Under the project, Matero Reference Health Centre will receive the new facilities for the outpatient, casualty/ administration building, laboratory, maternity building, adult and paediatric wards and other related facilities, and Chilenje Health Centre will receive the outpatient, the casualty, maternity ward (delivery department), administration ,medical imaging facilities and other related facilities. Medical equipment which would be necessary for the newly constructed sections and some of the existing sections will be also procured.
