El Salvador, constrained by poor natural resources and a lack of major industry, continues to challenge their handling of the economy toward sustained growth. The country's preparedness is still vulnerable to natural disasters, such as frequent earthquakes, hurricanes and other disasters. To promote El Sarvador's iniciative for their sustained development, JICA's assistance focuses on stimulating the economy and expanding employment as well as El Salvador's efforts for environmental conservation. Central American nations face many common development issues such as the environmental protection and disaster risks prevention. Since Central American Integration System (Sistema de la Integración Centroamericana or SICA) is headquartered in El Salvador, JICA is also closely working with SICA to formulate programs/projects with a view to tackle region-wide development issues.
