Don't go back to crime, don't go back to crime - Towards a bright society where everyone supports recovery - Officials from the Justice sector attend JICA training

2024.01.04

A month-long training program was conducted this year for two successful PNG applicants, Mr. Conrad Mate Patuve (Parole Officer) and Senior Inspector Georgina Nelson (Correctional Officer). Both officers attended the training on Management of Correctional Facilities and Rehabilitation of Offenders.

From this training, Mr. Patuve found great interest in Japan’s Volunteer Probation System (the Hogoshi’s); their involvement and active participation in supervising the offenders placed on Probation and Parole. They play a major role in the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders in the community. Despite it being a voluntary job, tasks are performed with great compassion and commitment. The Aftercare System (Half-way House) was also another system that was taught.

Senior Inspector Nelson also commended the delivery of this training. Both participants visited many sites such as the Prison, Half-Way house, Hogoshi house, Probation Office, and Prison Medical Centre. Other excursions enabled them to experience and witness the Criminal Justice System being practiced in Japan.
