Paraguay's key industry is agriculture, and the country boasts one of the largest quantities of soybeans produced and exported in the world. Its economy is vulnerable, being greatly affected by the production status of crops and international prices, and ranks among the least developed economies in Central and South America. Also, Paraguay has one of the largest wealth disparities in the world, with the disparity in rural areas particularly. Adding to that, socioeconomic infrastructure is inadequate on such as electric power, transportation and tap water, and overcoming such vulnerabilities is critical for moving forward with sustainable socioeconomic development without disparity in the country. JICA's support to Paraguay is primarily focused on: 1) redressing disparities, and 2) sustainable economic development.
