Welcome to the website of the Safe Motherhood Promotion Project in Narsingdi, Bangladesh!

We are pleased to commence the project that aims at helping the Government of Bangladesh improve the health status of women and children more effectively and efficiently at all levels, from the grass-root to the policy-making at the center. For the next four years, we will provide technical assistance to achieve the project purpose, with Narsingdi district --covering all six upazilas-- being our model case. Once the model proves successful, it will be expanded to other parts of the country.

This is a project of the people, by the people, and for the people of Bangladesh. The Government of Bangladesh and its people are major actors in making it happen, while we, including Bangladeshis and Japanese as project staffs, are facilitators to support them.

Local-oriented innovative approaches we have introduced make this project unique and distinctive from other JICA projects (see Features of the Project for details). Being a catalyst, we will have a lot of struggles, but all of the project staffs are very excited about the challenging work ahead of us, which requires us to be always open, flexible, and positive.

We hope that this website will serve as a tool to build the network of information where not only we but also others can share information. Come here regularly to let us update you on our progress and share our experiences. In turn, your comments, experiences, feedback would be most welcome!
