The Project Closure and Lessons Learned Seminar of the Japan Sri Lanka College of Technology Project (JSCoT) was held on Tuesday, 8 June 2010 at the DTET Auditorium from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Based on the recommendations of the Terminal (Final) Evaluation of the Project that was concluded in mid-March 2010, the Seminar aimed to share the lessons learned and experience of the Project among internal and external stakeholders of the Project.

Held as a full-day event, the Seminar was attended by forty-five people, thirty ‘insiders’ (DTET, SLCoT and the Project) and fifteen ‘outsiders’ (Directors of ‘other’ CoTs, Principals of the Satellite Technical Colleges that are attached to SLCoT, one past student of the first batch of the ICT Section who graduated in March 2010 and one Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers who is attached to the ICT Section of the Galle CoT).

The Seminar comprised of six presentations (three technical presentations, one each from ICT, Metal works and Mechatronics and three non-technical presentations, one each from Career Guidance, Industrial Relations and Course Know-How Dissemination). Although a tour of the Level 5 and 6 Sections was also organized, it could not be completed as the interactive question and answer (Q&A) sessions that were held at the end of every presentation often exceeded the time allotted for them. The Q&A sessions proved to be very useful and many issues were discussed at length.

Chaired by Director General of DTET, the Seminar was moderated by Mr.Bandara, Director of the SLCoT. A questionnaire to elicit the feedback of the participants was circulated at the end of the six presentations and ninety-five per cent of the participants rated the Seminar as ‘very useful and informative’ for them.

The Project hopes that such seminars and interactive sessions would be held between SLCoT, the ‘model’ College of Technology and the other Colleges of Technology at regular intervals.
