Coping with health risks which occur as a negative impact of development
2005.6.12~2008.6.11
Environmental Research and Training Centre, Department of Environmental Quality Promotion under Ministry of Natural Resources and Environments
It is well known that industrial and economical development often causes negative impacts such as damage to natural resources and the environment. VOCs, Volatile Organic Compounds, are chemical compounds which cause negative effects on health, for example, increase the long-term risk of cancer.
This project aims to foster human resources development of personnel concerned with monitoring of VOCs as this needs quite high techniques to measure. This project has also contributed to setting up Environmental Standards of VOCs approved by National Environmental Board of Thailand in September 2007. It is expected that the emission of VOCs will decrease as a result of this project.
Working for improvement of local cooperation
2005.10.18~2008.10.17
Department of Local Administration, Ministry of Interior
Through the decentralization process, many tasks are transferred from central to local government. However, many local governments do not have enough resources and difficulties to take all the responsibility. There is work which is more efficiently done in cooperation with nearby authorities rather than one. Japan has had a history of local cooperation for 120 years. This project aims to make a local cooperation system with Japanese experience.

Aiming at making society that is comfortable for senior citizens
2007.11.08~2011.11.07
Ministry of Public Health, and Ministry of Social Development and Human Security
The proportion of ageing people in the Thai population is growing rapidly.
However, preparation of ageing society is not enough.
Medical care and welfare service need to be delivered properly to older persons so that they can live in peace.
To convey Japanese experience and know-how of rapidly ageing, JICA started the technical cooperation project in November 2007.
