Including the signing of the "Japan-Vietnam Joint Statement" by both heads of state in October 2011, the strategic partnership between Japan and Vietnam has strengthened, and expectations in Vietnam for Japan, the top bilateral donor, are growing high. Vietnam's 10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy (2011-2020) places a focus on system development, human resource development and infrastructure development. Taking this into account, JICA is partnering with Japanese industry, educational institutions, municipalities, NGOs and others to provide comprehensive assistance for nation building with a fair society by strengthening the international competitiveness of Vietnam toward modernizing industry by 2020, improving society and living, correcting disparities, preserving the environment and strengthening governance.
