Supporting maternal and child health care

The Nepal Safe Motherhood and Newborn Health Road Map 2030 advocates for the promotion of the Continuum of Care (CoC) from pregnancy through the postpartum period. Since 2015, the Citizens' Association for Nepal Exchange has been actively supporting maternal and child health care in Pokhara under the JPP. The core objective is to foster grassroots support, encourage institutional delivery, and improve service quality by enhancing birth preparedness through awareness campaigns.

In an effort to amplify its impact, JPP has hosted workshops at community centers and offered training at the Matrishishu Miteri Hospital, with a particular focus on breast care for breastfeeding. Since 2023 January, the project is aiming to strengthen CoC as utilizing the maternal and child health handbook (MCH handbook), which serves as a bridge between health workers, mothers, and their families. The MCH Handbook, originating from Japan and now introduced in about 50 countries worldwide, empowers mothers with an advanced understanding of self-care during pregnancy and childcare.

Throughout the duration of the project, a range of online training sessions, supported by medical personnel in Japan to enhance the quality of CoC. The project also involves ordinary citizens making handmade gifts for mothers and babies, as a symbol of care and love.
