Welcome to the Japanese Overseas Migration Museum. Here you can learn about the Japanese people who immigrated to other countries and their descendants, known as “Nikkei.”
Japanese immigration to other countries dates back over 150 years. So why did these people leave Japan to go to other countries? What were their lives like in the countries to which they moved? In the exhibits that follow, you can learn about the lives of these Japanese who moved to overseas to places where they had to learn to adapt to different languages, customs, and cultures.
