On February 1, JICA Executive Senior Vice President Yamada Junichi held a meeting with Republic of Côte d'Ivoire Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé in the Autonomous District of Abidjan, while visiting the country.

The meeting began with Prime Minister Mambé outlining his own experience visiting Japan and his interest in Japanese culture, the friendly relations between Côte d'Ivoire and Japan, and his gratitude for JICA’s cooperation thus far. He also mentioned various ideas for further cooperation, including in the fields of food security—toward which JICA has already been making efforts—the electrical power sector, and interchanges, traffic control, and other forms of urban transportation infrastructure.

Executive Senior Vice President Yamada responded by stating that Côte d'Ivoire is an important country in regard to JICA’s cooperation in Africa, detailing three Japanese ODA loan projects signed during fiscal 2022 totaling 52 billion yen, the largest amount of cooperation in Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as JICA’s contributions made to the country via the African Development Bank. He also talked about grant-aid and technical-cooperation initiatives aimed at addressing the numerous issues faced by Côte d'Ivoire, such as those related to food security ( local rice promotion, etc.), the health sector, and infrastructure and urban development, while confirming that the two countries will further deepen their cooperation toward growth in Côte d'Ivoire.
