Signing of Memorandum of Understanding between Sony and JICA: to begin comprehensive business cooperation

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (“JICA”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sony Group Corporation (“Sony”) with the purpose of contributing to addressing challenges in developing countries and achieving the SDGs. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Mr. Yoshida Kenichiro, Chairman, President and CEO of Sony and JICA President Kitaoka Shinichi.

Based on this memorandum, JICA and Sony aim to make the most of the expertise of the two organizations along with sensing and other technologies developed and possessed by the Sony R&D Center to promote collaboration primarily in the following areas.

Comprehensive business collaboration arrangement — core components
(1) Empirical research with the goal of contributing to achieving the SDGs
(2) Promotion of innovation in contributing to resolving social issues
(3) Promotion of understanding of the SDGs and encouragement of human resources development in developing countries
(4) Other items, as agreed upon in the future by JICA and Sony

With the conclusion of this memorandum, both JICA and Sony will work together to create new impacts in order to resolve development issues in developing countries and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs.
