Signing of Grant Agreement with Malawi: Rehabilitation of substations in Lilongwe to achieve reliable and stable supply of electricity, which contributes to the economic growth of Lilongwe City

On October 18, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Malawi in Lilongwe, to provide grant aid of up to 2.891 billion yen for the Project for the Improvement of Substations in Lilongwe City.

The reliability and stability of electricity supply will be enhanced by this project, through the rehabilitation and reinforcement of the substations in Lilongwe City. It is expected that this project will contribute to sustainable economic and social development in Lilongwe. This will contribute to the achievement of SDGs Goal 7.

For the detailed design of the project, JICA has already signed a grant agreement to provide grant aid of up to 18 million yen in February 2021.
