Signing of Grant Agreement with Laos: Contributing to the development of high-quality engineers through the improvement of facilities and laboratory equipment at the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Laos

On March 25, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Vientiane to provide grant aid of up to 2,105 million yen for the Project for the Improvement of Facilities and Laboratory Equipment at the Faculty of Engineering, National University of Laos.

The Laotian government positions the mining and construction industries as driving forces for economic growth, and aims to utilize new technologies, diversify the economic infrastructure, improve productivity, and reconstruct the supply chain, but the development of high-quality engineers with high expertise and technology is an issue. The objective of the project is to improve the education and research environment of the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Laos, which has the most graduates of the four National University Faculties of Engineering in Laos, by upgrading facilities and equipment for education and research activities. This project is expected to develop engineers who meet the needs of industry in Laos, and will contribute to SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goals 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 9 (industry innovation and infrastructure).
