On November 11, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, to provide grant aid of up to 1 billion yen for the Programme for Strengthening Medical System.
The Government of Moldova is working to improve the country’s healthcare sector, yet development of its healthcare infrastructure, including the updating of aging equipment and procuring of new equipment to improve the level of medical care, is still needed. In addition, due to a lack of both financial and human resources in Moldova, it is expected that many displaced people from the neighboring country, Ukraine, will continue to flow into Moldova and to remain there, furthering the need to address the shortage of healthcare resources.
Considering this situation, the programme aims to contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of the medical system of Moldova by procuring medical equipment for five hospitals that have been receiving displaced persons from Ukraine in the city of Chisinau.
This programme will contribute to the improvement of the standard of living of people in Moldova as well as the improvement of the medical services that Ukrainian refugees receive. Moreover, this programme will lead to the achievement of SDGs Goal 3 (Good health and well-being).
