On February 9, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste in Dili to provide grant aid of up to 4,901 million yen for the Project for the Improvement of Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport.

Under this project, a new passenger building with upgraded equipment will be constructed to replace the existing building at Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, the gateway to the capital city of Dili. The project aims to enhance the convenience and safety of the airport and to respond to the future growth of air traffic demand, thereby contributing to the sustainable socio-economic growth of the country.

By working toward these aims, this project will also contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) Goals 8 (Decent work and economic growth) and 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure).
