On February 12, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed a grant agreement with the Government of the Independent State of Samoa in Apia, to provide grant aid of up to 2.401 billion yen for the Project for the Improvement of Facilities at the Faculty of Health Science, National University of Samoa.

This project aims to improve the quality of education in the field of healthcare by constructing an education building for training doctors and nurses at the Faculty of Health Science of the National University of Samoa, located in the capital city of Apia, and by providing related medical equipment. It is expected that this project will enhance the development of healthcare human resources in Samoa. This project will contribute to the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) 3 (Good health and well-being) and 4 (Quality education).

① Facility improvements/equipment provision
[Facilities] Faculty of Health Science Education Building (total floor area: approx. 3,550 m2 *including 35 m2 for the generator building): faculty offices, librarian's office, lecture rooms, simulation rooms, library, seminar rooms, medical laboratories, auditorium, etc.
[Equipment] Equipment for experiments and practical training: 4 childbirth simulators, physical assessment models, patient monitors, diagnostic ultrasound equipment, etc.; educational equipment: AV systems (including fixed cameras, projectors, screens), etc.

② Consulting services
Detailed design work, bidding assistance, construction/procurement supervision, equipment and facility maintenance, etc.
