Primary objectives and outcomes

The Pacific Climate Change Centre (PCCC) is a regional asset belonging to the people of the Pacific with the support of development partners committed to the resilient development of Pacific Island countries and territories (PICTs). PCCC is in its third year of operation since JICA grant aid. The event revolved around three key points regarding the PCCC: enhancing its functions and services through a programmatic approach, fostering collaborations for knowledge exchange and innovative solutions across the Pacific region, and emphasizing its role in sustainability efforts and climate action acceleration through investments in partnerships and mechanisms.

Content of the discussions

This side event highlighted the importance of the center in promoting resilience in Pacific Island countries and territories as it provides practical support and training to address their adaptation and mitigation priorities. For the sustainability of the center the importance to secure long term investment was also discussed .

JICA share its history of cooperation with the Government of Samoa and SPREP concerning PCCC starting from the Grant Aid for the construction of the center followed by a technical cooperation project which enhanced training capacities of PCCC in climate change, and now committed to implement a new project “Project for Innovative Solutions for Pacific Climate Change Resilience” to promote innovative climate solution for the Pacific region and enhance the capacities of PCCC to foster public-private partnership.
