A training session in Japan for the PAQER CEC Mathematics team

2023.03.12

The Project for Improving the quality of education through strengthening school-community collaboration (PAQER-CEC) is a project implemented in Burkina Faso by the Ministry of National Education, Literacy and Promotion of National Languages (MENAPLN) in collaboration with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). One of the activities of this project is the development of mathematics learning tools to improve the basic skills of primary school students.
A team set up for this purpose benefited from a first online capacity building session in September 2021. From 12 to 28 May 2023, this team, with 7 members including 5 men and 2 women, stayed in Japan for a second training session at the Naruto University of Education.
During this second training session, the participants discussed the Japanese vision of school success and curriculum, the methods of animation and use of learning materials to improve various skills, including the non-cognitive skills of learners, and the prospects for improving teaching materials based on assessment of skills and analysis of results. The knowledge and skills acquired were then reinvested to improve the Level 3 exercise booklet and to identify and finalize suggestions for improving Levels 1-2, considering the context of Burkina Faso and the results of the research-Action.
Back in Ouagadougou, a delegation of participants visited the JICA Burkina Faso Office on Wednesday 31 May to express their satisfaction and gratitude for the opportunity of capacity building offered to them.
