International Symposium:Diversified World and the Global Economic Crisis: Challenges to Developing Countries and Roles of the International Community
Day:2009.07.13
event |
Details:
The U.S. and European financial crisis triggered by the "Lehman Brothers Shock" has now turned into global economic crisis, and has affected not only developed and emerging economies, but also least- developed countries (LDCs) such as those in Africa. Before the crisis, resource-rich LDCs grew rapidly due to the rise in commodity prices, while economic activities and public services in resource-poor LDCs significantly deteriorated. By the same token, the current economic crisis has had diversified impacts on LDCs as well as developed and emerging economies. This symposium features distinguished keynote speakers and panelists such as Mr. James Adams, Vice President of the World Bank, and Mr. Hiroyuki Hino, Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Kenya. Discussion includes diversified impacts and prospects of the current crisis, in particular, pressing challenges faced in LDCs and roles of the international community.
