■ Main Objective

The Asian Peace Science Network(APSN), JICA Research Institute (JICA-RI) and RIETI are co-organizing a symposium in Tokyo this summer on "Institution Building in Asia for Peace and Development." Given the region's diversity in religion, race, ethnicity and standard of living, Asian countries would benefit from region-wide political and economic institutions that take into account the region's potential for multidimensional conflict. APSN was formally established in 2008 under the strong initiative of Professor Walter Isard for the promotion of peace, security and economic development in Asia. This conference serves as the second annual International Conference of Asian Peace Science Network.

Conference participants will discuss the design and development of regional institutions capable of promoting greater peace and prosperity throughout Asia against the backdrop of the current global economic crisis. To this end the theoretical knowledge of scholars will be combined with the experience of practitioners and policymakers, in presentations and active discussions, to examine the relevant issues.
