JICA - JKUAT Public Lecture in Collaboration with Toshiba and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

On 27th June 2023, JICA in collaboration with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) organized a public lecture seminar inviting two prominent Japanese Private Firms, Toshiba and Mitsui & Co. Ltd to share their experiences from a private sector perspective.
Toshiba is a Japanese Multinational Conglomerate whose niche ranges from energy and social infrastructure to electronic devices. In 2021, Toshiba whose guiding philosophy is “Committed to the People, committed to the Future” made sales amounting to 3,337 billion Yen with a human resource base of 116,224 employees to support its operations. On the other hand, Mitsui & Co Ltd is a giant trading and investment company from Japan engaging in various business areas such as Energy, Chemicals, IT & Communication etc. In the fiscal year ended in March 2023, Mitsui’s revenue was $ 106.8 billion with its operations spread in 63 countries and 128 offices.
The guest speakers for the seminar were Mr. Iwasuke SHIMADA, Managing Director, Toshiba Africa (Pty) Ltd South Africa and Kenya branch and Mr. Godfrey WALUSE, Deputy General Manager, Mitsui & Co. Europe Plc., Nairobi Branch. Among notable participants to the seminar were officials from JICA led by the Chief Representative, JICA Kenya, Mr. Hajime IWAMA and the Vice Chancellor to JKUAT, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellors. Ms. Joelle Perreau, the Vice Chancellor, University of Seychelles also participated in the seminar online and emphasized on the value for partnership and collaborations to strengthen institutional capacitary for sharing knowledge and experiences.
