Toward building a hygienic hospital environment -Providing cleaning machines and sterilizers to hospitals- (Improving Basic Medical Services for Infectious Disease Control, Buka Hospital)

JICA has been implementing “The Project for Improving Basic Medical Services for Infectious Disease Control in Health Facilities” since 2021. Under this Project 15 steam sterilizers for 11 hospitals and 9 professional use washing machines and 9 dryers for 4 hospitals were procured and the installation currently have been in progress by National Department of Health (NDOH) to improve the safety of medical tools and uniforms. In the second week of December, the NDOH team got to work on the installation of the sterilizer at Buka Hospital, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, which is one of the target hospitals. These sterilizers, washing machines and dryers procured by the Project have contributed to strengthening the capacity of nosocomial infection control and improvement of basic medical services at each hospital.
