Ten students from Port Moresby School of Excellence and Iarowari Technical Secondary school in NCD participated in a student tour hosted by JICA on the 19th of March 2024.

The aim of this tour was to raise awareness of environmental management among children and encourage them to practice proper waste management in their schools to create a cleaner environment for all. Activities included site visits to Baruni Sanitary Landfill and Port Moresby Sewage Treatment Plant at Joyce Bay to understand the current efforts being made. There were also a series of presentations from CEPA, NCDC, JICA Japanese staff and JICA Alumni members on proper waste management practices.

Twelve wheely bins (6 bins per school) were also donated to participating schools after the tour. JICA continues to support PNG to improve its waste management practices for a cleaner, safer and healthier environment.
