News#3 Participation in Maputo City Bicycle Event (August 2023)

On August 19, 2023, members of the METRAP-Maputo project participated in a social initiative called "Maputo Cycling" in the city of Maputo. The initiative, hosted by the Maputo Municipal Council, aimed to promote sustainable modes of transportation and healthy habits while transforming the values of the city and its residents. The event featured various activities such a cycling competition, family rides, and skateboarding.

During the event, the JICA Mozambique office provided 50 T-shirts, and the project team offered 200 reflective bands from Japan and other safety goods with focus on children's safety education. Promoting use of bicycle and improving the environment are considered crucial challenges for the future sustainable transportation in Maputo, and such topics will continue to be discussed in the revision of the city’s Master Plan.
