The Civil Code, drafted by the support of Japan started since 1999, will be finally effective on Dec. 21, 2011. The new Civil Code was promulgated in Dec. 2007, but its application has been pending as it had been necessary to coordinate with other laws, to prepare ancillary procedures and mechanism and to disseminate the Code to the people.

The Law on Application on the Civil Code was promulgated on May 31, and will be effective on Dec. 21, 2011. It declares the application of the Civil Code on the same date.

In addition, Law on Procedure of Litigation relating to Personal Status and Law on Non-litigation Procedure will be also effective according to the provision of each law. MOJ will put further efforts to disseminate these laws related to civil matters which have a large influence upon life of people, after its application in the end of this year.
