Rice Research Technical Workshop in Fogera (Amhara region)

Researchers conducting FRG based rice researches in collaboration with JICA-FRGII project, from various Agricultural Research Centers (ARCs) and Universities participated in the practical "hands-on" training session focusing on the data collection in the farmer's fields and further calculation of the yield components.

Mr. Tsuboi (aka. Mr. Nerica) and Dr. Nishimaki, JICA experts in rice cultivation technologies from Uganda, instructed how to collect the sample plants (crop cut yield survey) in the Adet ARC field, then how to measure each yield components for calculation of estimated yield per unit area at the teaching laboratory at Woreta Agric.College. Yield components of rice (No.of harvested hills per reap area, No.of seeds per panicle, weight of filled/empty grains per 1,000 seeds etc.) should be identified not only to estimate the rice yield per unit area but also to improve the rice cultivation technologies with understanding what component could be improved by technical modification further made.

Participants from diverse rice cultivation areas in Ethiopia were intent on following the instructions given by the JICA experts, and satisfied with obtaining accurate results of the computation of rice yields in different fields in conditions.
