Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) is the first of its kind in Ethiopia, established in 2008. ECX aims to achieve a better market for agricultural commodities through transparent transaction.　The ECX recently established ECX Institute as its research and training wing. To establish and strengthen partnership of the institute with existing research institutions, it organized a symposium in April and various researchable areas were discussed. As one of the participants to the symposium, members of EIAR, including a JICA/FRG II advisor, contributed the discussion on the aspects of standard setting for major crops, study on local market, capacity development of farmers on market, research on inputs and postharvest, etc.　Dr Elani is the CEO of ECX and her speech in 2007 at TED on establishing ECX is available on the web.
