JICA Exparts and Crop Research Directorate of Amhara Regional Agricultural Research Institute visited the National Crop Resources Research Institute, Uganda, where JICA-NERICA Rice Promotion Project was being under implementation. FRG-II contributes the promotion of rice production in Ethiopia through FRG based research activities and this trip was the second part of visit in two rice related projects of JICA in East Africa (please refer Project News 2011-03-11) to collect information for the plan of establishing Ethiopian Rice Research and Training Center in Fogera, Amhara by Ethiopia Institute of Agricultural Research and to promote linkages among regional partners for future activities.

NERICA Rice Promotion Project is a JICA supported project and the Regional Rice Research and Training Center recently built with the financial assistance from JICA to cator for rice development in Uganda and other East African countries. FRG-II staff toured facilities in the center and observed training session, also visited at the field of the former training participant farmer in Busembata village, Namutumba. The farmer expressed how much he appreciated that the introduction of NERICA contributes to improve his and his neighber's livelihood.
